Caseware SME

Caseware SME is a cloud platform used by accounting firms across Africa to automate the preparation of IFRS for SME financial statements. It is a domain where the stakes are high. These are legal documents. An error has real consequences for the firm and the client. That shapes everything about how you work. Testing discipline is non-negotiable. The review process is slower and more thorough than most SaaS products. You think carefully about edge cases because in accounting software, edge cases are exactly where errors are most damaging. I worked primarily on three areas: the data import pipeline, which accepts trial balances from Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, and raw Excel without losing precision; the real-time collaboration layer that lets multiple accountants work on the same engagement simultaneously; and the automated drafting engine that generates the financial statement structure from the imported data.
